It was a pivotal game in the Paris Musketeers' season.
Hosting the Frankfurt Galaxy at Essonne Stadium on Sunday, Paris had the opportunity to strengthen its grip on third place in the EFA standings while completing a season sweep after claiming a dramatic 21-20 victory in the first meeting. For one half, everything seemed to be going according to plan. But a one-sided third quarter completely changed the momentum as the Galaxy pulled away for a 31-24 victory, leapfrogging the Musketeers in the standings.
Paris established its game plan from the opening drive, relying heavily on the running game to control possession and wear down the Frankfurt defense. The early drives showed promise but failed to produce points.
Frankfurt, meanwhile, made the most of its first real opportunity. Despite briefly losing control of the football, quarterback Ethan Garbers stayed composed and connected with Brevia Easton for the opening touchdown of the afternoon, giving the visitors an early 7-0 lead.
The Musketeers answered immediately.
Quarterback Zach Edwards settled into the game and began attacking the soft spots in the Galaxy secondary. A perfectly timed completion to Cheikou Sow turned into a spectacular catch-and-run touchdown, bringing Paris right back into the contest.
The Paris defense then took control of the game. Applying constant pressure at the line of scrimmage, the Musketeers forced a quick punt and handed the offense excellent field position. A big reception by Torin Justice moved the ball deep into Frankfurt territory before Edwards found Hugo Tekedam in the end zone to give Paris its first lead of the afternoon at 13-7.
Frankfurt, however, refused to panic.
Ryan Rimmler first trimmed the deficit with a field goal before the Galaxy produced a perfectly executed two-minute drive just before halftime. Mixing the run and pass with remarkable efficiency, Garbers capped the possession with a touchdown pass to Paul Kavadia-Lenhardt with only three seconds remaining in the half, sending Frankfurt into the locker room with a 17-13 advantage despite an evenly contested opening 30 minutes.
The game changed immediately after halftime.
Paris opened the second half with an excellent defensive stop, giving its offense outstanding field position and a golden opportunity to regain the lead. Instead, the drive stalled on a failed fourth-down attempt inside Frankfurt territory—a sequence that ultimately proved to be the turning point of the afternoon.
Fueled by that defensive stand, the Galaxy seized complete control.
Garbers continued to orchestrate the offense with confidence, finding Adria Botella Moreno for another touchdown before Frankfurt converted a crucial third-and-long later in the quarter and finished another impressive drive with a rushing touchdown by Foster.
In the span of one quarter, the Galaxy outscored Paris 14-0, turning a four-point halftime lead into a commanding 31-13 advantage.
Once again this season, the Musketeers showed two very different faces. Sharp and disciplined before halftime, Paris struggled to maintain offensive rhythm after the break. Drives stalled, opportunities disappeared, and mistakes piled up against a Frankfurt team that simply refused to give anything away.
The Musketeers finally found some momentum in the fourth quarter.
Edwards connected with Lokmen Nadjem for a touchdown before Paris successfully converted the two-point attempt to cut into the deficit. The defense followed with an immediate three-and-out, giving the offense one final opportunity to make it a one-possession game.
Although the Musketeers drove deep into Galaxy territory, they had to settle for a field goal by Dean Faithfull.
Trailing by seven points, Paris attempted an onside kick in the closing moments, but Frankfurt secured possession and ran out the clock.
The loss carries immediate consequences in the EFA standings. The Galaxy overtakes the Musketeers for third place, leaving Paris just outside the top three. With the playoff race tightening, the Musketeers will need a quick response next week against Prague to keep their postseason ambitions firmly on track.
